Sunset over Cadillac Mountain

My workshop students and I ventured out to Schoodic Point to paint the sunset. This is a popular tourist activity, but for some reason I’ve never painted it before. The sun dropping behind a mountain moves quickly. I worked very, very fast to capture it.

The sunset at Schoodic Point is often bathed in this pink-violet tone, but the star of the show as far as I’m concerned is the silhouette of Cadillac Mountain.

I took it home to my studio intending to finish it, but there is nothing I can do to improve on what’s there. It says everything one needs to say about the sun setting over Cadillac Mountain without a single extraneous brushstroke. Anything I add would diminish it.
