This was painted at the head of the Centennial Trail in West Sedona. I could have called it 47 bikers because one mountain biker after another stopped to talk to me while I was working. It was a cool (by Arizona standards), brilliant day, and the shadows snaking along the sand were striking. This is one of my all-time favorite paintings, not least because of the understated cactuses in the bottom left.

I never get a chance to hike in Sedona; I’m always working. But I do love setting up along trailheads, and I’ve promised my friends I’ll come out to lark around someday.
