Jack Pine

I was practically middle-aged before I realized that Jack Pine was a species and not just a weatherbeaten evergreen that lived along the Great Lakes and the North Atlantic coast. This is a baby, but it’s already showing a preference for the rocky headlands that its species loves. It was painted at Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park. The translucent colors of morning were in full force—the peach and pink of the granite, the blue and teal of the trees and the aquamarine of the surf.

This painting can jump any way. Put it in a traditional plein air frame and it will enhance any rustic or classic room. Or go contemporary with a narrow black frame and white liner. Or even try grey-on-grey driftwood. It’s a painting that will go anywhere with distinction.
