High surf

$1,159.00

We used to vacation every other year in Ogunquit, at my late (and sadly missed) friend’s cottage. The beach there was the perfect place for kids to spend a day, and we would walk the Marginal Way, which is a very refined cliff walk by Maine Standards—it has benches and areas of pavement and unparalleled views.

That does not make the sea there benign. Ogunquit can develop rip currents and undertows, and last winter’s storms blew a storm surge right across the peninsula that is the hamlet of Perkins Cove.

I’ve seen (and sometimes painted) heavy seas along the Marginal Way, but never a heavy sea on an otherwise perfect day. Early September being hurricane season, I assume a weather disturbance was passing us far out to sea. It made for wonderful painting.
