Bunker Hill Overlook

$3,985.00

Damariscotta Lake runs in a long finger from the town of Jefferson, ME to the Damariscotta River and thence to the open ocean (if you are inclined to row that far). I painted this from an overlook across from Bunker Hill Baptist Church, which is a spare, white frame New England building on classic lines. While I was there, a big, burly oldtimer stopped to release a mouse he’d caught in a humane trap; he stayed so long gassing with me that his wife came by to see if he was okay.

This is on Yupo, a Tyvek-like synthetic paper that’s my favorite substrate for watercolor. It’s translucent, so my framer hung the full sheet loosely within the frame so it can catch the light.
