Autumn Farm, Evening Blues

$1,449.00

I was painting along a roadside in October in Chester County, PA, when the peace of the afternoon was interrupted by baying in the distance. A line of dogs, horses and riders picked their way across the field in front of me. Whatever scent the hounds had picked up, they lost as just quickly. Humans and horses waited to see if they recovered it. They never did, but all parties concerned had a lovely afternoon.

I was too far along to recompose the painting to include them, but they are there in the far meadow.

The Radnor Hunt is the oldest continuously-operated hunt club in the United States, founded in 1883. They don’t kill foxes; it’s not the goal in modern American foxhunting. American red foxes are a lot smarter than the hounds chasing them, as was clearly evident the day I watched them.

Autumn Farm, Evening Blues was painted in the twilight hours of cool blue light. It’s in a high-chroma color scheme that would look good in any space from traditional to contemporary. Paired with Autumn Farm, it would be a showstopper in any room.
