This is a combination painting/critique class where students will take deep dives into finding their unique voices as artists, in an encouraging and collaborative space. The goal is to develop a nucleus of work as a springboard for further development.
We will examine work against both the formal standards of design and the artists’ stated goals.
Join a vibrant group of supportive artists as you paint with a focused eye toward creating a cohesive body of work. Refine a complex project or execute a series of paintings. The instructor and your peers will help you further focus. Or take more pointed cues from painter and teacher, Carol Douglas. Either path will jump start your journey. This is a critical step to clarify and speed your artistic development.
To take this class, you must submit a concept statement for the work you will develop over the six weeks of the class. This can be a body of work developed around a theme or an idea. Your concept statement should be less than two hundred words (please!) and emailed to me before you register.
“I want to master painting clouds” is every bit as valid as “I want to master the iconography of Northern European Renaissance painting.” I just want to know that you’ve thought it out in advance.
The class will run for 6 weeks on Monday evenings, 6-9 PM EST. You will need a zoom-enabled device.
All classes are recorded so you can review them at your leisure.
