Zoom Class: Composition and Brushwork

Tuesdays, 6 PM – 9 PM EST

This class will stress two fundamental areas of painting:

Composition: We’re going to press into real-life composition, including objects, shadows, light, and color structure. We’ll use still life without shadow boxes, over-accentuated light, or other crutches. Expect it to be challenging, but it will teach you more about painting than any amount of painting from photographs.

An important part of this is simplification. You’ll learn to weed out what’s distracting in a scene, and replace it with light and color. I promise you this will help dramatically when plein air season starts again.

Brushwork: Yes, there are artists whose brushwork we all admire, but I’m going to set you on the way to assured brushwork that’s authentically you. That means weeding out some bad habits and embracing new ideas.
